New Years Resolutions: How Are You Doing?

I didn't make a resolution this year, so to speak, but it has been on my heart to love like Jesus loved. I see so much cruelty in the world and it makes me want to cry. However, loving like Jesus loves is a tough (actually impossible) goal. He gave His life. I'm certain He doesn't expect me to be nailed to a cross, but I am to offer my life up to His use and I'm expected to be patient and kind, to not be jealous or boastful or proud or rude. I should never demand my own way, nor be irritable. And I cannot keep a record of wrongs done to me. And I should not rejoice over an injustice, but rather rejoice whenever the truth wins out. I should never give up, never lose faith always be hopeful and endure through every circumstance.

That's a tough list of to-do's and not to-do's. But they are found in I Corinthians 13, and are clearly laid out as examples to Me. So, how I been doing? I've already let God down. But I'm not giving up.

Did you make a resolution? How are you doing?

Grace and peace to you from God.

  1. I made a one word resolution. I found out about it on Seekerville a couple of weeks ago. You choose a word that you want to focus on for the whole year in every aspect of your life. You pray about it, search the scriptures for it, plain ol' live it. So I started mulling over words like Faith, Imagine, Hope...but none of them felt right. Then -- out of the blue, I thought of the word Fire.

Odd choice, but wait a minute...What is faith without the fire of conviction behind it? And imagination can be pretty two-dimensional unless you heat it up with fire. And Hope? Completely passive without fire blazing a trail before it. So, that's my word and it is causing me to look at things -- and even react to situations -- differently. You might say I'm all fired up about a lot of things now. :-)

  2. Kav--Amazing! I love that. What a great idea. And I love your choice of words. It's so not the "norm" I figure it must be from the Holy Spirit.

I'd love to hear more about what you learn as the year goes by.

    Grace and peace to you!

  3. This year, I figured I never keep "resolutions," so I will make monthly and weekly and daily goals. I started a fresh journal to record all of these goals. I don't fret if I don't make a daily goal. I just move it over to the next day.

So far, it's working pretty well. I'm almost done with a writing project I've had on the back burner. I'm getting closer to finishing my novel. And I've drunk 6 glasses of water every day. Not bad overall!!:)
    Thanks
