A Cross Country Adventure

In September of 2006 my husband and I set off on a grand adventure. We made a trip across our great nation, 8,000 miles in three weeks.

I had a book in my heart, but before I could write it I needed to visit the places my adventurous characters would be traveling. I've never had so much fun, and as Greg and I made our way across the country I recorded the journey.  We discovered beauty and diversity beyond our imagination.

In honor of my new release, To Dance With Dolphins I'd like to revisit that special time and take you along with me. Over the next several days, I'm reposting my journal and I hope you'll join me as, once again, I travel across this fabulous country.

At the end of each day I will have a prize to give away. Make sure to stop in, check out my latest travel entry and answer the day's question for a chance to WIN that day's prize.

This is a photo of Greg and I just before we set out.
We were sure a lot younger.

HERE WE GO ...

Friday September 29, 2006

"This is a great day! I'm launching my new website and setting out on a cross country adventure!

I've got a book that's screaming at me to be written, but first I've got to see the places my characters will visit. So, today I'm off. I'll be traveling from Oregon to Idaho, Wyoming, Colorado, Kansas, Missouri, Kentucky and Tennessee, and then I'll head down to Georgia and Florida, travel across Mississippi, Louisiana, Texas and New Mexico and then cut through Arizona and finally head north into California and then home to Oregon. There's so much to see it boggles the mind.

I'm counting on meeting lots of fascinating people and I'll be handing out free copies of books from the Queensland Chronicles. I can't wait to discover the country. I know I'll find treasures that will fit perfectly with my story and that seeing the country will stir up all kinds of story ideas. If you know of a place I ought to visit let me know. I'll do my best to get there.

Bye for now. As I travel I'll continue to visit here and keep you updated on my latest adventures. It ought to be fun."

That was our beginning all those years ago, and today's question is, What U.S. location would you most like to visit? Make sure to leave your answer along with your email address so I can contact you. My first prize is a FREE copy of book one in the Queensland Chronicles, The Heart of Thornton Creek.

I'll announce all winners at the end of the journey ... nine days from now.  Happy trails!

Grace and peace to you from God,

Bonnie

I've seen so many beautiful places but at the top of my Bucket List is a visit to Maine in the Fall.

Independence Kansas because that's where my book, Two Souls Journey, is set! :)

New York. Always NYC. I want to see a big Broadway musical. Eat in a fancy schmancy dinner house and a real deli down the block. I need to see throngs of peeps going here, there, and everywhere and try to find the sky between all the tall skyscrapers. I'd like to hear some real NY accents so thick it'd make me chuckle! I want to be scared to death riding hell bent for leather somewhere in a NY cab. I could go on 'n on... but you get the picture! :) But I am oh, so happy and content and downright thankful to live in a sleepy little resort village in a forest -- just would love the rah rah schzaaaam visit to a city that never sleeps. We're all abed here by 9:30pm on New Years Eve even! Ha!

  7. Joyce, I've never been there (I don't think) although I've been through Kansas. Loved it, actually.

    What is your book about?

  8. Patti, I love your description of a NY visit. *smiles*

I'd love to do all those things too, except for the wild taxi ride. And I am dying to make a visit to Ellis Island. I included it in one of my earlier books, when immigrants were required to make their way through all the inspections and questions required. One day ... I will go.

  9. Nicole, I pray you will be able to visit the fabulous state. I had hoped to travel there this summer, but it wasn't to be. Praying it will happen soon. I have a lot of family in the state and it is definitely a special place ... oh so beautiful.

  10. There are many places I would like to visit. I would love to visit the Stowe Vermont area in the fall, because that is where Maria and the Captain Von Trapp settled when they came to the US. I would also love to visit the historical and genteel city of Savannah, Georgia. I have heard my parents talk a lot about it and that has created a desire to experience it, too.

  11. Colleen, I haven't visited Vermont, but would love to.

And as we go along on this journey we will be stopping in Savannah. It's a fabulous city. I wish I'd had more time to explore. Hoping to go back one day.

  13. Thank you, Chris.

This a a trip my husband I took in 2006. I was doing research for a book I didn't write until this year - To Dance With Dolphins. For fun I'm reliving the journey and hoping my readers and followers will enjoy the journey with me.

    So far, I'm loving it!

  14. I'd really love to visit the west, like Colorado, Utah, Oregon, Washington, Montana, Idaho, all of that. I got the visit part of it a couple years ago with my mom, but didn't get to stay long and only hit the edges. :-) Hoping to go back west again someday Lord willing.

  15. Donna, what part of the country do you live?

I do love the west, but the entire country is amazing. There is still so much I want to see. And God willing I'll be making more trips.
